Blue Coat Cottage is a cozy retreat in Gettysburg, perfectly located just across from a quiet creek and only minutes from historic attractions, local restaurants, and charming shops. Thoughtfully designed for comfort, the cottage offers welcoming spaces to relax after a day exploring town or walking the battlefield.

Set in a home built in 1910 surrounded by open fields and neighboring farms, the property offers a peaceful rural atmosphere while still being close to everything Gettysburg has to offer. From the yard, you can look toward Marsh Creek — where General Robert E. Lee and his forces famously retreated on July 4, 1863 — adding a unique sense of history to your stay.

  • This historic home features a stairwell landing with lower clearance — taller guests should use caution.

  • As a rural property surrounded by farms and fields, occasional insects or wildlife are possible despite regular pest control.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The home is located in a peaceful countryside setting about 10 minutes from town. A vehicle is required.

  • Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at 11:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available if the schedule allows — please ask in advance.

  • Guests receive detailed self-check-in instructions before arrival using our smart lock system.

  • Two cars can fit in the driveway. Please park in the driveway only and not in the grass over the driveway. We have a septic holding tank in the backyard which cannot support the weight of a vehicle.

  • There is a limit of 6 guests. Sorry, no exceptions. 

  • Yes. The kids’ nook under the stairs is a favorite feature, and the full kitchen and laundry make longer stays easy.

  • Due to allergies pets are not permitted.

  • Yes. Guests can relax and enjoy the peaceful country views, fresh air, and quiet rural setting. The backyard features a hammock, chiminea, and a patio dining set, while the front porch balcony has chairs for watching the wildlife around Marsh Creek. 

  • Yes. The dedicated office and reliable Wi-Fi make working comfortably simple.

  • Yes. High-speed Wi-Fi is provided for streaming, remote work, and staying connected.

  • Yes. The kitchen is stocked for real cooking and includes spices, a crockpot, rice cooker, plenty of pots and pans, cookware, dishes, utensils, and essential tools for preparing full meals.

  • Dual Keurig (k-cups and ground coffee provided)

  • Yes. Fresh linens, towels, and paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) are provided.

  • No. Smoking or vaping is not permitted inside the cottage or on the property. 

  • The cottage is a short drive to Gettysburg National Military Park, downtown shops and restaurants, and historic sites.

  • Yes. Grocery stores, restaurants, and conveniences are just minutes away.

  • We are available if you need assistance and want your stay to be comfortable and relaxing.
